Global eXchange Services (GXS), a General Electric spinoff, announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Harvey Seegers and appointed a new CEO on Tuesday. Replacing Seegers is Gary Greenfield, formerly the CEO of one-time GXS competitor Peregrine Systems.

Seegers, who had managed GXS while it was still a subsidiary of GE, led the e-commerce unit through its acquisition last year by Francisco Partners. Neither Seegers nor representatives of GXS were immediately available to discuss why Seegers resigned. GXS, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md., sells e-commerce software and services to 60 percent of the companies on the Fortune 500 list.
