Former Google exec Megan Quinn joins Kleiner Perkins
Venture capital firm's new investment partner, most recently at Square, will focus on consumer Internet ventures.
Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers announced today that former Google and Square executive Megan Quinn is joining the firm as an investment partner.
Quinn will focus on consumer Internet ventures as part of the venture capital firm's digital team, according to a press release.
Quinn, who oversaw strategy and development of products at Square for the last year, starts late next month.
Prior to Square, the Stanford University graduate was at Google for seven years. She led the development of some of Google's most successful products, including Google Maps.
"Joining Kleiner Perkins is an incredible opportunity at such an exciting time for the firm and technology industry," Quinn said in the release. "I look forward to working with the talented team of investment professionals and entrepreneurs to identify and nurture the next generation of consumer Internet companies."
News of Quinn's hire follows the firm's response yesterday to a gender discrimination lawsuit in which junior partner Ellen Pao alleges that the firm's management retaliated against her for rebuffing sexual advances from other partners. Pao is also a member of the digital team.
The team is working with the firm's latest fund, KPCB 15, which closed at $525 million earlier this month.
KPCB partner Ted Schlein called Quinn a "rising star in the consumer technology and start-up community" and said she will be a huge asset to the firm.
"Megan has worked at some of Kleiner's most disruptive and innovative past and current portfolio companies from Google to Square and has experience along the entire continuum of the high-growth startup lifecycle, including product development, marketing and strategy," he said in the release.
