Web Sharing failure and Security Update: A follow-up

CNET staff
Brent Rossow confirms that the problem with Web Sharing not loading after installing the OS X Security Update (see previous mention), at least for some users, is a new instance of this problem, not directly due to the previously cited problem with OS X 10.1 itself. He writes:

"We are participating in an Apple-led OS X 3-day workshop. All of us have installed Mac OS X 10.1 on the machines in the room. About half of us have applied the 10/19 security patch, and that same group of us cannot now start Web Sharing. Those who have not applied the Security patch can start with no problems. It's definitely a Security Update issue. Specifically, here is the error message reported in the Console window:

      dyld: /usr/sbin/httpd Undefined symbols:
      _apple_hfs_module
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started"

However, we have still not confirmed whether applying the work-around (editing the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file) suggested for the original 10.1 problem (as noted in this KB article or at stepwise.com) will work for the Security Update< variation as well. We suspect it will work.

Update: Most users report that this fix does indeed work. We have only one report stating it did not.
