PaperPort scanner at end-of-life for the Mac

Evidently development has ceased on PaperPort for the Mac. Given the relative lack of support over the past year, this is not surprising, however this is the first time we have heard anything "official." Users who have archived documents in PaperPort software may be left without options for retrieving their documents. Steve Jamieson writes:

"As a longtime user and fan of the PaperPort Vx scanner (with some 30,000 important documents stored in this format) I was concerned that Scansoft might not be planning to port the software and drivers to Mac OS X. I contacted the West Coast branch of the company today and spoke to Support. They informed me that Paperport Mac development has been 'dead-ended,' a decision apparently made just last week.

The major problem as a result is that the PaperPort docs cannot be viewed with any other application. I have spoken to the creator of GraphicConverter and he informs me that Scansoft is one of the very few companies who won't let him have access to their code so the images can be used by GraphicConverter."

Update: Carl Krall suggests: "Try using Print-to-PDF to convert them to PDF files." Kenneth Kirksey concurs. Jim Allison suggests: "Open any PaperPort document and chose 'Save As' from File menu; PaperPort documents can be saved as TIFF, GIF etc. or in the word processor format the user has on their drive."
