New ATI drivers and OpenGLRendererATI issue

CNET staff
Two readers (J. Hanson and Wade Zimmerman) note that the Beta July 2001 ATI drivers (see previous coverage) install a file called "OpenGLRendererATI" version 1.2.6. This file is not listed in the list of installed files cited by the Read Me that comes with the software. However, you need to be aware of it if you decide to downgrade back to a previous version of the ATI software. These readers decided to downgrade because they did not yet have access to the needed OpenGL 1.2.2 (it's not yet posted online). They found that they also needed to revert to the older 1.2.3 version of this extension before OpenGL would work properly.

Update: Wade Zimmerman found that this downgrading was not required for his installation. We have contacted him for further details.
