Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.3 (#5): Entourage database corruption

CNET staff

A handful of users are reporting Entourage database corruption after updating to Office 2004 11.2.3.

MacFixIt reader Terry writes:

"I installed the update last night and it has rendered Entourage unusable.  Even though the database utility reports that my database is fine, I keep getting a popup that reports my database is corrupted and it will only let me quit all office products or cancel.  When I cancel - it pops backup a minute later - there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off, or stop it so I can get work done."

In some cases, this issue can be resolved by rebuilding the Entourage database via the following process:

  • Launch Entourage while holding down the option key
  • Allow the Database Utility to quit open Office applications.
  • Select your identity from the list,
  • Click the 'Rebuild Database' button, and click 'Continue.'

Note that you can also rebuild the database using the Database Utility, which is located in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/.
