In a recent Apple knowledge base article, Apple warns that Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard may not install properly on volumes that are being, or may have been, used for Time Machine backups. To be able to install Snow Leopard on your volume, there are a couple steps to follow:
- Be sure you have your Time Machine backups on a different drive.
- Start your Mac on the disk you want to install Snow Leopard on.
- Find the "Backups.backupd" folder and move it to the Trash. You may have to enter your Administrator password. Only empty the Trash if you have your Time Machine backup on a different drive.
- If you wish to keep your Time Machine backup on the current drive, move the "Backups.backupd" folder from the Trash to the Desktop.
- Install Snow Leopard as directed.
