iTunes 9 Tip: Use Home Sharing to sort new music
If you are like me, you have meticulously combed through your iTunes Library, carefully capitalizing song names, renaming tracks, and adding album art. So what happens when someone dumps a pile of new music on your lap?
If you are like me, you have meticulously combed through your iTunes Library, carefully capitalizing song names, renaming tracks, and adding album art. So what happens when someone dumps a pile of new music on your lap? The last thing you want to do is spend hours sifting through all the music you already had, plus all the new stuff.
In iTunes 9, you can use the new Home Sharing feature to help you get through your new music, without messing up the chi of your existing collection. In a tip posted on macosxhints.com, user "Ephilei" recommends creating a new user account on your Mac (System Preferences > Accounts - click the (+) button). Now, import your new music into iTunes 9 on the newly created account.
Because user accounts are viewed as a "computer on your network", you can leave the new account open and view the new music on your original account via Home Sharing. Now, you're a single click away from importing the music you really want. Enabling Genius Playlists on the new iTunes Library may help narrow down a large collection to your favorite tunes.
