G4 Software Install (OS 9.1) differences and NVIDIA cards

CNET staff
We reported previously that there is a video-related problem attributed to the version of the Software Install CD used with the new G4s. If your G4 came with version 1.2 of this CD, you may have problems if you reinstall with an older version of the CD. Apparently, there has already been a change in the hardware since these new G4s came out. The culprit appears to be the NVIDIA drivers. Eric Taylor writes:

"If you install the wrong NVIDIA drivers, you will get a weird effect at startup where your monitor right-shifts so that your Apple menu is in the middle of the screen and if you try and reach the left edge, your mouse wraps around and appears on the right side of the monitor. The old NVIDIA drivers are version 1.09, while the new ones are version 1.1.1. Apparently 1.09 only works with cards with ROM# 1017F and 1.1.1 only works with cards with ROM# 1027F."
