Cingular taps Nortel for gear
Cingular Wireless will install $500 million worth of new phone network equipment from Nortel Networks, Cingular announced Tuesday. The equipment will be used in Cingular's GSM (Global System For Mobile Communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) cell phone networks in the Carolinas, coastal Georgia and eastern Tennessee. The cell phone service provider last year announced it intends to spend more than $3 billion rebuilding its network during the next few years.
