CNET Showcase discussion: Slates vs. Netbooks

Our second live CNET Showcase event was all about the market for smaller-than-laptop computers: Slates, tablets, and Netbooks. We brought Dan Ackerman out from our New York office to argue with Donald Bell about the merits of different technologies and platforms, in front of a live audience.

Coming June 24: CNET Showcase on tablets, slates, Netbooks

CNET Showcase on 3D: Videos and wrap-up

It went about as well as we could have hoped. In our first live CNET Showcase event for local tech fans, we brought together five manufacturers, two independent experts on 3D, a whole mess of pizza, and dozens of active-shutter glasses to give people a 3D glimpse into the future of home entertainment. See Brian Cooley's video here for an overview of the event.

I kicked off the event by interviewing CNET TV reviewer David Katzmaier and Retrevo's Andrew Eisner about 3D in the home. We learned about the "Avatar effect" on the 3D market. We … Read more

Coming April 8: CNET Showcase--3D in the home

I'm happy to announce that we're launching a little event series here in San Francisco called CNET Showcase. Our goal is to bring local tech enthusiasts together to talk about new consumer technologies with the people who are studying them and making them. And--bonus!--we want to give folks a chance to get their hands on new stuff in a more relaxed and educational environment than a store or giant jam-packed trade show.

Our first event is less than a week away, on Thursday, April 8, at 6 p.m. We'll be bringing in five vendors of … Read more
