American Isuzu Motors will include a free Gateway computer with the purchase of certain 2001 Isuzu sport utility vehicles as part of Isuzu's "Hard Drive" promotion. The deal begins today. The automaker will also donate $1 million to the After School Alliance and other educational charities as part of the promotion.
XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite, the two companies trying to convince consumers to pay monthly subscriptions fees to access dozens of channels of satellite-delivered music and news, announced new alliances with some automakers at this week's New York International Auto Show. Both Volkswagen and Nissan will offer a choice of XM- or Sirius-ready radio receivers as an option in select car models. Support from automakers is seen as a key element in popularizing satellite radio. Exclusive XM partners include General Motors, Honda and Isuzu, while Sirius has locked up Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Mazda and Volvo.
