Short Take: Level 3 signs undersea fiber deals

The international unit of Level 3 Communications, an advanced telecommunications carrier, has signed deals with Alcatel and Eurotunnel to build underwater fiber-optic networks linking the United Kingdom to Belgium and France. Alcatel will design and install a cable to Belgium spanning the English Channel for Level 3 by year's end. Eurotunnel will install a cross-Channel link to France by early 2000. Financial terms were not disclosed for either deal.
