Formac shows off external DVD-RW drive

Formac Electronic on Thursday unveiled the devideon superdrive, an external FireWire DVD-R/RW (DVD-rewritable/recordable) drive for Macs. The $549 drive, essentially the same Pioneer Electronics model used in three Mac models from Apple Computer, is also a CD-RW (CD-rewritable). Formac will bundle DVD authoring software with the drive. Depending on the compression algorithm used, Formac?s software can record up to six hours of video on a single DVD. The drive is expected to go on sale later this month.
