If ColorSync Utility finds problems with profiles that it cannot fix, you may be able to address them by running the utility in root mode.
If your ColorSync profiles are not sticking in OS X, then a corrupt colorsync cache may be to blame.
While not a commonly recognized image editor, ColorSync Utility in OS X has some convenient editing options, such as quickly assigning color profiles to images.
