The World Wide Web Consortium has approved the recommendation of the WebCGM Profile, which standardizes the use of Computer Graphics Metafiles (CGMs) on the Web. CGM is a graphics format, issued as a standard by the International Organization for Standardization for use in online materials like technical manuals. The W3C recommendation is meant to improve hyperlinked CGM interoperability; several proprietary versions exist.
Inso Corporation, provider of electronic publishing and information sharing software products, announced that it has acquired Henderson Software, provider of Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) viewing and filtering solutions for technical documentation, for $750,000. HSI will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Inso, and the transaction will be accounted for as a purchase. The acquisition includes certain technology under research and development, which Inso will write off with a one-time charge, estimated at approximately $500,000.
