Sycamore optics gear used in European network

Sycamore Networks announced Thursday that European telephone service carrier KPN Qwest has successfully used its optical gear in KPNQwest's high-speed network in Scandinavia. The equipment transmits optical signals between cities over so-called long-haul networks, which run between cities. KPNQwest's Nordic network serves six cities and covers about 4,500 kilometers and also connects with other cities around Europe and North America. The news comes as a breath of fresh air for Sycamore, which posted a loss of $46.2 million, or 19 cents a share, on sales of $54.2 million for its fiscal third quarter ending on April 28. First Call consensus expected Sycamore to lose 18 cents a share on revenue of $61 million. The company's shares have traded in a range between $5.65 and $172.50 in the past 52 weeks. Sycamore will report fourth quarter earnings on Aug. 21 after the markets close.
