We're not yet sold on BMW's homage to the venerable 2002 (pictures)
Built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW's 02 lineup, the result is a mish-mash of curves and shapes punctuated by what appears to be a current 2 Series upper half.
There's a whole lot going on here with the 2002 Hommage concept.
It debuted at the 2016 Concorso d'Eleganze Villa d'Este, situated next to Lake Como.
A big band of carbon wraps around the vehicle, just like the chrome strip did on the original 2002 Turbo.
BMW claims the lines are "minimalist," which is the exact opposite of how we would have described it.
How the hell is this minimalist? Look at that hood! It's ridiculous!
It's like an M235i got stung by a bee.
We've been promised that there is a 2002 Hommage somewhere in this picture.
The rear end manages to achieve both an underbite and an overbite at the same time. Impressive.
I will say that the wheels and the front lip are really cool, though.
Like its previous Villa d'Este concepts, this one won't be going into production, which, for the first time, is a very, very good thing.
