Toyota Furia concept projects an aggressive future Corolla
DETROIT--Look past the Furia's over-the-top concept car glitz and you'll get a pretty good idea of what to expect when the 12th generation of the Toyota Corolla compact sedan is eventually launched.
Design cues
Taking a close look at the front end, we see a number of the same design elements that debuted most recently on the 2013 Toyota Avalon, including the small upper grill that integrates the headlamps.
LED headlights
LED headlamps hide beneath a chrome brow. LED fog lights tuck deep into the front corners, invisible when viewed from the side.
Front end
We also see echoes of the Avalon's large, bean-shaped lower grille here. However, the Corolla Furia uses the shape much more aggressively -- almost to a comical effect.
Roofline
The Furia features a very upright C-pillar that should allow the sedan ample headroom (particularly for rear-seat passengers) despite the sharply raked windshield.
Rear end
Toyota is looking to inject the Corolla with a youthfulness that the small sedan has been lacking.
LED tail lights
Around back, we see more of the next Corolla's design through the veil of concept car extravagance. The taillamps make heavy use of LEDs, but still use the same basic shape that we've seen on the latest Toyota sedans.
19-inch wheels
Large 19-inch wheels fill the wheel well and have been pushed out closer to the Furia's corners than the current production Corolla.
Carbon fiber
The Furia concept makes use of carbon fiber for its front bumper, side skirts, and rear spoiler. I can't see these bits making it to production as anything more than TRD styling upgrades.
Styling excercise
This being a styling exercise for the automaker, Toyota hasn't mentioned much about the Corolla Furia's cabin or engine technology.
