The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience--photos
We were recently given an opportunity to hop behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 at an owners' track day. Need we say more?
The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience
We were recently given a chance to get behind the wheel of a supercar at the Ultimate Lamborghini Experience, held at the California Auto Club Speedway. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity.
Not a Countach to be found
Beverly Hills Lamborghini brought out a few Lambos to join the owners' personal Gallardos and Murcielagos.
California Speedway
California Auto Club Speedway is a fast track that can accommodate NASCAR races and the high-speed Lamborghinis. The infield portion tested the supercars' handling.
Owners' track day
Owners are given a chance to really work their machines without fear of a speeding ticket.
Gallardo LP560-4
The vehicle we were given the keys to was the Gallardo LP560-4 (pronounced guy-yard-o). This quarter million dollar machine does 0-60 in under 4 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 202 mph.
Cousin to the R8
When viewed in profile, the Gallardo's shared architecture with the Audi R8 becomes quite visible. Both vehicles feature similar AWD systems with transmissions based on the same R-Tronic technology.
5.2-liter V-10
Under the rear deck is a 5.2 L V10 with FSI direct injection generating 552 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.
MMI, anyone?
If the Gallardo's stereo looks familiar, it's because it is. An example of parts sharing, the Lambo uses Audi's MMI interface.
Best bang for the buck?
Some of the owners speculated that, in many ways, the nimbler Gallardo LP560-4 is a better car for the money than the bigger, more powerful Murcielago, which doesn't change direction as readily.
Top Gear has actually proven this by piloting the LP560-4 around its highly technical track faster than the Murcielago LP640.

Superleggera
The Gallardo Superleggera is a lightweight model that slots between the base Gallardo and the LP560-4. The Superleggera sheds more than 150 pounds and gains 10 horsepower over the standard Gallardo.
High speed
On the front straight, I was able to achieve upwards of 140 mph in the Gallardo LP560-4.
High speed
While I went fast in the Gallardo, Murcielago drivers bragged of speed in excess of 155 mph, well short of both vehicles' top speeds.
Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce custom
Al & Ed's brought out the most extreme Lambo this side of a Reventon, the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce custom.
Scissor doors
Unlike the Gallardo, the Murcielago features the iconic "Lambo doors."
Spoiler
The SuperVeloce featured some extreme aerodynamics. Check out this huge rear spoiler and diffuser.
6.5-liter V-12
The Murcielago LP670-4 is powered by a 6.5-liter V-12 that is even more powerful than that of a standard Murci. Horsepower is rated at 661 ponies with 487 pound-feet of torque. It goes 60 mph from a stop in about 3 seconds.
Audio by Kenwood
The standard SuperVeloce doesn't come with an audio system. Al & Ed's has rectified this omission with a Kenwood double DIN unit.
$8.75 million
More than 30 vehicles in attendance, worth anywhere from $200,000 to well over $300,000. That calculates to about $8.75 million worth of vehicles in one parking lot.
More than meets the eye
This Murcielago, customized by Al & Ed's, looks like it would be right at home in the latest "Transformers" movie.
Custom paint
This example was bathed in silver and matte black paint before being shod with Giovanni wheels.
Custom sound
With the engine in the back, the installers chose to mount the Murcielago's amps in the trunk in the front.
Chassis bracing
A few of the Murcielagos featured chassis stiffening braces, as seen here.
GoPro Hero Motorsports
To capture their on-track experiences, a few of the drivers used GoPro Hero cameras. Check out our full review.
