Subaru hones the Impreza sedan's design with a new concept (pictures)
It seems like the latest Impreza model only just arrived, but Subaru is already hard at work honing the design for the next generation sedan with a concept at the 2015 LA Auto show.

LOS ANGELES -- It hasn't been long since the fourth generation Impreza sedan and hatchback models arrived in 2011, but Subaru isn't a brand that rests on its laurels.

The Japanese automaker is already hard at work honing and sharpening the design for the next generation. Earlier this year, we saw a 5-door concept; today, they show us the sedan's future.

The concept is sharply sculpted with a deeply creased side character line. The fenders' flares interrupt that bold slash, which I feel emphasizes the wheels' importance over the rest of the design. Even conceptually, Subaru emphasizes function over form.

The headlights are an evolution of the current design, with U-shaped, hawk-eye daytime running lights. However this execution is a lot more abstract and less practical.

The Impreza sedan concept boasts a wide stance -- and this is before the inevitable WRX variant goes even wider.

The front end of the concept, where the lights meet the grill, features some complicated sheetmetal folding. This makes the nose look busy from many angles, but trust me when I say it looks better in person.

Underpinning the concept is the automaker's new modular platform and, of course, its trademark Symmetrical All-wheel drive system.

19-inch wheels of a custom design fill the wells and are shod with 235mm wide tires.

Ruby red metallic paint with glossy black trim makes the already strong lines of the automaker's Dynamic x Solid design language pop.

Subaru says, "The new design direction hints at not only the new Impreza design, but of Subaru's future models."
