Porsche Panamera teaser

Porsche has been teasing us with its upcoming Panamera for some time now, but recently it has released official photos of the vehicle.

Here, we can see that--at least from the front wheels forward--the Panamera fits in nicely with the rest of the Porsche line.

Exposed in all of it's oddly shaped glory, we can see the dual-element headlamps and separate daytime running lamps that were introduced on the 911 and continued on the Cayman and Boxter.

The model pictured here is a Panamera 4S, which means that it will feature Porsche's all-wheel-drive system. If we had to guess, we'd say that there's a direct injected V-6 under the hood making about 300 horsepower.

The Panamera line will also feature a Panamera Turbo model. If the similarly sized Cayenne Turbo is any indication, we'd guess that there's a twin-turbo V-8 powering this one with about 500 horsepower on tap.

Viewed from the front, the Panamera's coupe-like roofline does a good job of disguising the vehicle's bulk.

The Panamera looks much better than we anticipated, with a roofline that is distinctly Porsche, albeit slightly stretched and distorted to make room for the extra pair of doors. We think this vehicle looks like a fantastic alternative to the Cayenne for drivers who need two extra seats, but don't need the ground clearance and huge storage space.

Viewed from the rear, the increased length and mass is obvious. What's not so obvious is what we should call this class of vehicle. With no clear answer, we'll just keep calling it a wagon.

From this photo, we can see that the Panamera will offer a lot of storage space, either in its ample trunk or on the roof with optional rack mounts.

The Panamera is expected to be revealed, in the sheetmetal, sometime in Spring 2009 and to hit dealerships the following Fall.
