Hyundai quickly follows the introduction of its Genesis Coupe concept from the 2007 Los Angeles auto show with this production-ready version, based on its new Genesis platform. The Coupe will launch as a 2010 model next year with two engine choices, a 212 horsepower intercooled turbocharged four cylinder and a 306 horsepower 3.8-liter V-6.
For interior refinements, the Genesis Coupe gets an Infinity stereo system and smart key. A six speed manual is standard with both engines, while the a five speed automatic is optional with the four cylinder and a six speed ZF automatic is optional with the V-6.
The hard top version of Pontiac's Solstice roadster can be had in either standard or high-performance GXP versions. The Coupe uses a targa-style roof which can be removed with three latches inside the cabin. Instead of a trunk, the Coupe's back glass opens up revealing a small cargo area.
Mercedes-Benz updated its SL-Class roadster, restyling the hood and front grille. The car also gets an updated navigation and stereo head unit, complete with a 4 gigabyte hard drive that can store approximately 1,000 MP3 tracks. An AMG version is also available.
Acura gave its TSX sedan an update, with big improvements to its cabin electronics. The car gets new data features fed into its navigation system, such as weather reporting.
Saab's new Turbo X 9-3 has all-wheel-drive and 280 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 engine. A big 295 lb-ft. of torque helps it get to 62mph in 5.7 seconds.
The LCD in the Turbo X 9-3 shows GM's standard music and navigation system, with convenient tabbed interface for navigating its different functions.
The new performance version of Pontiac's G8 sedan features a massive 6.2-liter V-8, making an estimated 402 horsepower at 6,000RPM, and 400 lb-ft. of torque at 4,400RPM. It keeps that power to the pavement with a multi-link MacPherson strut front suspension and four link independent rear suspension. Brembo brakes bring it to a stop. 60mph should come in 4.7 seconds.
Coming out this fall, the retro-styled Dodge Challenger comes in a base model, plus R/T and SRT8 performance models. The R/T model will have a 370 horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi, while the SRT8 gets a massive 425 horsepower from its 6.1-liter V-8 Hemi.
The Challenger has cabin tech as well as massive horsepower with the MyGig system, which features a hard drive-based navigation system with room to store MP3 tracks.
Nissan calls the updated version of its Maxima 4DSC, for four door sports car. It is a good-looking sedan, powered by a 290 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 mated to a continuously variable transmission. The top of the car is glass, letting in much more light than the narrow glass of past models.
Nissan offers an optional 9 speaker Bose audio system with iPod integration for the Maxima. An optional navigation system includes a hard drive with 9.3 gigabytes of storage for MP3 tracks.
We've been looking forward to Lincoln's new luxury sedan, which will feature a THX audio system, the Ford Sync system for controlling cell phones and MP3 players, and a new navigation system that includes weather, traffic, fuel prices, and movie listing.
Honda redesigned its small Fit, giving it a slightly different hood treatment and an updated suspension and 1.5-liter four cylinder engine.
One of the most interesting changes to the Fit is the option for Honda's excellent voice recognition navigation system.
Audi's updated all-wheel drive wagon comes with a choice of two direct-injection gasoline: the top-of-the-range V-6 is good for 265 horsepower. Inside, the Avant comes with a new MMI interface as well as an available 505-watt Bang and Olufsen audio system with 14 speakers.
Pontiac insists its sport truck is a whole new category of car, although owners of old El Caminos and Rancheros would hold a different opinion. For interior amenities, the G8 sport truck gets Bluetooth cell phone integration and a 230 watt Blaupunkt audio system. Its LCD touch screen serves to control the stereo and climate.
Volvo calls its new crossover the safest car it has ever built, which is saying a lot coming from a company known for safe cars. The XC60 gets power to all four wheels from a turbocharged 3-liter transversely mounted inline six cylinder engine.
The XC60 includes a set of innovative safety features, such as blind spot and lane departure warning. We assume it will offer a Dynaudio speaker system, optional on other Volvo models.
Mercedes-Benz bills its ML320 BlueTec as the cleanest diesel in the world. It uses AddBlue technology, a urea solution which, when injected into the exhaust stream, converts nitrogen oxides into ammonia. Mercedes-Benz will also launch BlueTec versions of its R-Class and GL-Class.
The 2009 Saturn Vue Green Line will be available with GM's 2 mode hybrid system, a full hybrid system which can drive the car under electric power only at low speeds. This system should offer significant fuel economy improvement in the Vue.
For some reason, Volkswagen felt that, to offer a minivan in the U.S., it needed to license the Town and Country platform from Chrysler. As if the company doesn't have a mini-van in Europe, or hadn't for years had a successful van in the U.S. before the mini-van name was coined.
Reflecting its Chrysler roots, the Routan gets the same MyGig navigation and music system also available in the Chrysler Town and Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan.
