Nissan Ellure concept (photos)

Nissan reinvents the sedan with the Ellure concept at the 2010 LA Auto Show.

Antuan Goodwin gained his automotive knowledge the old fashioned way, by turning wrenches in a driveway and picking up speeding tickets. From drivetrain tech and electrification to car audio installs and cabin tech, if it's on wheels, Antuan is knowledgeable.

Nissan takes a "kitchen sink" approach to the Ellure's power train, matching a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control and a 25kWh electric motor with an Xtronic CVT sending power to the front wheels. We're not sure even Nissan knows how it works.

Nissan claims that the Ellure embraces its "sedan-ness" unlike other four-door coupes.

The Ellure's angular grille was inspired by a Samurai's "Kamishino" formal coat.

Around back, the Ellure also features the boomerang tail lamps that we've come to expect from Nissan's current design language.

A nod to traditional Japanese design can also be seen in the Ellure's rear end, which is inspired by a "Torii" Shinto shrine gate.

Rear-hinged rear doors give the Ellure a wide opening into the cabin.

The Ellure's paint treatment is "Geode" White tricoat mica paint with pearlescent/gold flakes with a blue aspect that varies in appearance by tone and temperature of light. Fancy.

Inside, the Ellure is decked out in a tricolor palette that features "Molten Ice," "Molten Steel," and "Molten Gray." We think we're noticing a pattern.

The Ellure's glass roof gives the passengers a sense of space.
