Hyundai launched its restyled Sonata at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year with an efficient 2.4-liter engine, but the new turbo version makes much more power with smaller displacement.
Hyundai uses two technologies to make the Sonata 2.0T's engine efficient: direct injection and turbocharging. The engine produces 274 horsepower, more than many V-6's, and 269 pound-feet of torque.
As a midsize sedan, the Sonata is designed as an everyday commuter and all-purpose vehicle, able to seat five. The new Sonata design makes the car stand out among the pack.
Although the Sonata 2.0T has impressive power specs, the suspension is the same as the standard and hybrid versions, so don't expect superior cornering ability.
Hyundai has been embracing new cabin technology, so we expect the Sonata 2.0T to not only get a Bluetooth phone system and iPod support, but also an optional navigation system.
