Cosworth Genesis Racing Series
You probably associate the name Cosworth with Ford and Lotus racing vehicles, but the engineering firm has lent its skills to Hyundai to develop the CGRS.
Cosworth Genesis Racing Series
Power from the 3.8-liter V-6 engine has been bumped to 389 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Cosworth optimized the intake and exhaust with its own parts and upgraded the Coupe's engine management software.
Cosworth Genesis Racing Series
The rest of the mod list reads like a Cosworth parts list. From the steering wheel and pedals to the carbon fiber body kit and satin-gloss paint to the performance suspension, nearly every upgrade has Cosworth's name stamped on it.
"Velocity" factory-tuner concept
The Hyundai Veloster also get a bit of Cosworth massaging in the form of the Velocity concept. It turbocharger, intercooler, and engine internals have been upgraded to boost power to about 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque of torque, just edging out the CGRS.
"Velocity" factory-tuner concept
19-inch HRE wheels are wrapped in Kumho Ecsta SPT tires and surround Brembo rotors and calipers. The rolling stock attaches to the chassis via Bilstein monotube dampers and springs.
"Velocity" factory-tuner concept
The Velocity has one of the wildest body kits on display at the SEMA Show.
Veloster RE:MIX
The Veloster RE:MIX is unique in Hyundai's booth in that you can actually buy it. This limited-edition trim level will be priced at $19,900 for manual transmission and $21,150 for DCT.
Veloster RE:MIX
The RE:MIX features unique paint, wheels, graphics, and badging.
Veloster RE:MIX
You can tell by the lower opening (and the price) that the RE:MIX will be a non-turbo model.
FuelCulture Genesis Coupe Turbo concept
From its perch atop the Hyundai booth, the most striking thing about the FuelCulture Genesis Coupe Turbo is the Dupont Hot Hues Candy Apple Red Paint, but it also features a custom widebody kit by Infinite Auto Design.
ARK Performance Genesis Coupe R-Spec Track Edition
ARK threw its whole parts catalog at this Track Edition Genesis Coupe R-Spec. The intake, headers, clutch, flywheel, suspension, even most of the wild body kit have ARK's badge stamped on them.
ARK Performance Genesis Coupe R-Spec Track Edition
Bolt-on upgrades and a Brian Crower Stroker Kit that bumps the engine's displacement from 3.8 to 4.2 liters net this R-Spec an output of 395 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque.
ARK Performance Genesis Coupe R-Spec Track Edition
Inside, the ARK Genesis Coupe is mostly business with a Cusco 8-Point roll cage, Sparco Pro racing seats and sterring wheel, but a JPM Coachworks custom interior adds a bit of pleasure.
ARK Performance Veloster Alpine Edition
This ARK custom Veloster features, in my opinion, a good blend of styling and performance upgrades. As much attention was paid to the graphics, custom paint, and roof rack accessories as to the engine and handling upgrades.
ARK Performance Veloster Alpine Edition
ARK replaced the piping of the 1.6-liter's turbocharging system, added a custom exhaust, and then got to work on a laundry list of bolt-on engine and suspension upgrades.
JP Edition Veloster Turbo
To be honest, the BASF Mint Green Paint by Auto Explosion is the mod that grabs my attention on this Veloster Turbo customized by John Pangilinan. Look past the paint and you'll see that the upgrade list also contains custom wide bodywork, 19-inch Gram Lights wheels, and an Alpine audio system.
JP Edition Veloster Turbo
KW Coilovers with ARK Performance Springs get the Veloster closer to terra firma, a Whiteline rear sway bar helps keep it flat when cornering, and a Brembo Big Brake Kit brings the vehicle to a stop when asked.
Custom Velosters
However, the most interesting car in the Hyundai booth wasn't a Genesis and it wasn't a Veloster...
Bisimoto Engineering Elantra GT
...it was Hyundai's newest model, the Elantra GT. The very same Bisimoto Engineering that once coaxed over 500 horsepower out of a Honda CR-Z applies its expertise to this hot Hyundai hatchback.
Bisimoto Engineering Elantra GT
Bisimoto cleverly displays the major specs for its cars with "Nutrition Facts" decals like this one. The important bit is near the top where the output is quoted at 602 wheel horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
Bisimoto Engineering Elantra GT
This massive jump in output is accomplished by slapping a massive turbo onto the Elantra GT's intake (and exhaust). Obviously, the 1.8-liter engine receives a host of upgrades to accomodate this big blower.
Bisimoto Engineering Elantra GT
In case you're not understanding the size of the Bisimoto/Turbonetics BTX6462 Turbocharger, I stuck my fist into the intake. Do not attempt this when the engine is running.
Bisimoto Engineering Elantra GT
Power reaches the road at the front axle via Buddy Club P1 18-inch wheels wrapped in Hankook Ventus tires.
