GMC's Sierra All Terrain X reminds us of Marty McFly's dream pickup (pictures)

GMC's 2016 Sierra All Terrain X is a grouping of options that gives the full-size pickup additional off-road prowess and attitude. We can't help be reminded of Marty McFly's "Back to the Future" rig, even though this truck isn't from Toyota.

Cars are Andrew's jam, as is strawberry. After spending years as a regular ol' car fanatic, he started working his way through the echelons of the automotive industry, starting out as social-media director of a small European-focused garage outside of Chicago. From there, he moved to the editorial side, penning several written features in Total 911 Magazine before becoming a full-time auto writer, first for a local Chicago outlet and then for CNET Cars.

The Sierra All Terrain X is an extension of GMC's All Terrain package, itself an extension of the Sierra 1500 4WD SLT Crew Cab/Short Box configuration.

The standard All Terrain package includes 4WD with an Eaton locking differential, off-road suspension, an in-dash inclinometer, body-color bumpers, a spray-in bedliner and rear parking sensors.

The "X" package adds black wheels with mud tires, black side steps, off-road LED lighting, LED headlights, a louder exhaust system, body-color door handles and numerous bits of blacked-out exterior trim pieces.

While it looks especially mean in black, you can also order the All Terrain X in white, blue, light gray, gunmetal or red.

The vehicle goes on sale this spring, but GMC has not yet released pricing.

For reference's sake, a current Sierra All Terrain goes for about $50,000, so the All Terrain X will likely add a couple grand to that.

When was the last time you saw a light bar on a new pickup? This has us nostalgic for Marty McFly's dream Toyota pickup from "Back to the Future."

The All Terrain X will also apparently go through water, although we'd be flummoxed to find a truck that can't in this day and age.

The Sierra's performance exhaust not only adds some grunt to the 6.2-liter V-8's exhaust note, it bumps the horsepower up to a nice and even 365 hp.

The All Terrain X is a limited-edition model, so don't expect it to stick around for the duration of the Sierra's lifecycle.
