Cadillac's fast wagon is due for an update (pictures)
The Cadillac CTS-V Wagon has all the components that make it an excellent performance car, but it may be worth waiting on the next generation, which could be out as a 2014 model.
Cadillac's CTS model was so successful that the company offered it in sedan, coupe, and wagon versions. It also received the V treatment, being offered with an excellent combination of power and handling technology.
The 2013 model should be the last of its generation, as Cadillac showed off a 2014 update to the CTS model recently. Whether the company will continue to offer a wagon in V form is unknown.
Optional on this model were these satin-black wheels and yellow brake calipers, not exactly performance upgrades but they do add to the look.
The engine is a gasoline-gulping supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, producing 556 horsepower, all of which can be tapped while on the road.
The CTS-V Wagon's secret weapon is adaptive magnetic ride technology that constantly adjusts to improve the car's handling.
As a wagon, of course it has a decent amount of cargo area, although not as much as found in a typical crossover.
The cabin of the CTS-V Wagon features quality materials covering surfaces, in keeping with Cadillac's luxury ethos. Standard seats are shown here, while sport seats are available as an option.
Comfy pseudo-bucket seats in the back get the same coverings as the front seats, although no adjustability.
The CTS-V Wagon's steering is tuned for a sharp response, while the chassis tuning limits understeer.
Along with the standard gauges, Cadillac includes a boost pressure gauge on the right. Drivers can also call up a performance computer on the instrument cluster display, with a g-force meter.
The six-speed automatic transmission in the car is a bit of a letdown, but a manual is available.
The cabin electronics are a bit dated, but the maps still look good, and even show some 3D-rendered buildings.
This onscreen keypad for destination entry reacts a little slowly.
Voice command for destination entry is particularly tedious, as there are many confirmation pauses, and you have to enter each component of an address separately.
The CTS-V gets weather and traffic data through its satellite radio connection.
The CTS-V Wagon includes a USB port, but owners will have to use this adapter cable for iPods.
With a USB drive plugged into the car, the stereo parses the track tags, and shows a full music library interface.
The CTS-V Wagon comes equipped with a Bose audio system, which produces very good-quality sound.
