Audi unveiled not only the new A6 at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, but also a new A6 hybrid.
As a full hybrid, the A6 can operate under full electric power (up to 62mph or cruising at 38mph), full gasoline power, or a blend of both.
The 2-liter TFSI four-cylinder has been augmented by an electric motor and now outputs a very V6-like 245hp.
Outside, the A6 doesn't grow significantly in any dimension, but across the line it loses a few pounds.
U.S. fuel economy is yet untested, but Audi estimates about 37 mpg.
You'll notice the lack of a Quattro badge. The A6 hybrid is a front-wheel-drive-only affair.
Inside, the hybrid model features unique instrumentation that indicates the status of the lithium ion battery pack and the electric power train.
On the more conventional front, the A6 is also available with two gasoline engines and a trio of TDI engines.
Depending on the power train, the A6 features either front- or all-wheel drive and either a six-speed manual transmission, a CVT option, or a new S Tronic automatic.
Inside, Audi's MMI gains a motorized LCD screen that hides away when not in use.
Navigation is linked to Google maps via a Bluetooth-paired phone and features terrain and Google Street View data.
Down below, users interact with the infotainment system via either the MMI controller or the optional touch pad handwriting-recognition system.
