Audi A1 clubsport quattro concept (photos)

For the 2011 Wörthersee Tour get-together of VW, Audi, and Seat fans, Audi built a very special A1 model. With the five-cylinder engine from the TT RS, the Audi A1 clubsport quattro concept gets 503 horsepower.

Based on its A1 model, Audi built this supertuned one-off, the A1 clubsport quattro concept. Its five-cylinder 2.5-liter uses direct injection and a turbo to pump out 503 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. It hits 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Audi will show the car at the the Wörthersee Tour 2011, a gathering of VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda fans in Austria.

Audi fit this A1 with a version of its Quattro all-wheel-drive system, but its 2.5-liter engine is too large for World Rally Car competition events, which would otherwise seem a natural fit for this car. Note the exhaust pipes in front of the rear wheels, a modification of the A1 model.

Audi made aerodynamic adjustments to the A1 clubsport quattro concept, the spoiler being necessary to keep it planted. The rear seat was also removed for weight savings, and a cross bar was fitted into the cabin to increase rigidity.

The cabin has been stripped for racing. It uses a six-speed manual transmission, and there is no navigation system, stereo, or even speakers. Note the red ribbon door pull. The seats come from the R8 GT.

Audi is using the concept to show off some accessories available for the standard A1, such as exterior decals in a variety of colors for the rear fenders. The racing livery shown here is not available for the standard A1 at this time. And Audi has so far resisted the idea of marketing the A1 in the U.S.
