2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack rises up against Subaru (pictures)

Volkswagen's Golf Wagon gains a bit of ground clearance and some off-road-look cladding in its Alltrack transformation.

There's a good amount of space back there -- VW pegs cargo capacity at 30.4 cubic feet, expanding to 66.5 cubic feet when the 60/40 split rear seat is folded flat.

Lower-end S and SE trims receive 17-inch aluminum wheels, while this range-topping SEL splurges on 18-inch units. Note the silver-look mirror caps, roof rails and lower-edge trim.

Behind that grille lives VW's 1.8-liter TSI four-cylinder gas engine giving 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque.
