2017 Jaguar F-Pace is one slick, spacious kitty (pictures)

Just 275 examples of this 2017 Jaguar F-Pace First Edition are promised for North America.

The Caesium Blue paint on the First Edition is an homage to the C-X17 supercar concept.

Despite the F-Pace's slicked-back roofline and slanted rear window suggesting a small interior, Jag says cargo and second-row space is class-leading stuff.

There are lots of F-Type sports-car-inspired design tidbits all over the F-Pace, and amazingly, they work.

Even the rear end of the F-Pace looks aggressive, thanks to a contrasting-color rear fascia incorporating a pair of exhaust outlets.

There's 3.0 liters of displacement and 360 horsepower lurking under the hood of this First Edition.

With its narrow rear window and prominent swept D-pillars, rear visibility is disappointingly limited. Drivers are likely to rely on the blind-spot-assist system more often than they would if visibility were better.

22-inch wheels Double-Helix wheels have 15 spokes and are finished in gray with contrasting inserts. They look the business.

Remarkably, despite such big wheels, the First Edition's ride quality is surprisingly good.

The First Edition's light leather cover brightens up the interior substantially, as does its panoramic moonroof. Lesser models can look somewhat less premium.

Plenty of head- and legroom back here for adults.

Adaptive LED headlamps are standard on the First Edition and upper-level trims, but Xenon lights with LED daytime running lamps are also on offer, as are standard halogen beams.

Note the careful sculpting on the hood.

Horizontally oriented taillights with rounded dip elements are a new Jaguar hallmark.

There are no First Edition-specific badges on the outside; you'll have to make do with S AWD callouts.

Jaguar will remove the S AWD badging at no cost if requested.

Like other new Jag models, the front grille Growler is mounted atop a sensor panel. The somewhat strange appearance that results is reported to be other model's most disliked feature.

Front fender trim adds directional thrust that's carried through the front doors with a character line.

This is the First Edition's top-dog 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine with 380 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 332 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 revs.

A small airbag boss is the centerpoint of this surprisingly sporty, small-diameter steering wheel.

Jaguar's rotary shifter returns.

These drive-select buttons are crucial to extracting the most out of the F-Pace. Sadly, they're small and poorly laid out, so they can't easily be manipulated on the fly.

Quad-zone HVAC is an option that Jag says is a first in this class.

A subtle houndstooth pattern is embossed in the leather.

No trick spin-to-open air vents here, that's for the XF.

Jaguar's RFID-based Activity Key is waterproof, shockproof and requires no batteries. It enables you to leave your key fob locked safely in your car when you go to the beach, go for a swim, or other physical activities, when carrying a physical fob isn't convenient. Just touch the Activity Key to the "J" in the "Jaguar" script on the F-Pace's tailgate, and your vehicle unlocks.
