2008 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro
The 2008 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro is a unique sports car that can be pushed hard with little effort. It doesn't neglect the tech side of things, however, offering premium audio, navigation, and hands-free phone support.
Audi redesigned its TT for 2008. The car comes in convertible and hardtop hatchback versions.
The adaptive, bi-xenon headlights combined with the grille of the TT form a very distinct face.
Our test car had the six-cylinder 3.2-liter engine. The car is also available with a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
With its simple styling, the TT looks like a slab on wheels, albeit with rounded ends.
Cabin wind protection is afforded by a retractable rear wind deflector. The cabin is very comfortable, even at high speeds with the top down.
With the 3.2-liter engine, the TT comes standard with Quattro all-wheel-drive. Our car also had the magnetic ride suspension option.
The power top works easily. All you have to do is push a button until the top raises and latches into place.
The retractable spoiler automatically surfaces at around 80 mph, then retracts when you drop below 55 mph. It can also be raised with a button on the console.
Although the TT is a sports roadster, Audi doesn't neglect the interior, with touches such as fully adjustable power seats.
The bottom of the steering wheel is flattened, helping the driver determine when the wheels are in a straight line.
Between the tach and speedometer, Audi mounts its traditional information display, which shows a variety of useful information.
The six-speed manual transmission in the TT is smooth and precise. The car can also be had with Audi's double-clutch automated manual S-tronic transmission.
The big radio display offers lots of space for information. With the navigation option present, this display would be replaced by an LCD.
It's easy to see the presets on this big LCD display, but tuning in a satellite radio station requires tediously turning the right-hand knob.
The TT does a good job of displaying MP3 information from CDs in its six-disc changer.
The Info button lets you choose whether to display the artist, the track, the folder, or the file name. The Browse button lets you see all the folders on a CD.
The premium audio system was included in our car, with 10 speakers, a center-fill speaker, and a subwoofer, all powered by an eight-channel digital amp.
