Usage up, price down: Chevrolet slashes cost of 4G LTE data
This is a far cry from the norm for data -- usually the price is jacked up as usage increases.
Data isn't cheap, whether it's going to your phone, your games console or your car's embedded modem. Thankfully, one of those destinations is about to cut its data-plan pricing, which...isn't what normally happens. Now, if you opt for a 4G LTE data plan in your Chevrolet, there'll be a little more dough in your pocket.
Most plans are now 50 percent cheaper, and there's a new, mid-range option as well. Opting for 1 gigabyte of in-car data each month used to cost $20, but now it's down to $10. The $80, 10-gigs-per-month plan is down to $40, and the annual plan -- where you pay $150 for 10 gigs to be used over the whole year -- now gives you 20GB of data.
The new plan rides the line between the 1GB and 10GB offerings. 4GB of data each month will cost you $20. According to Chevrolet, Silverado users consume the most data, followed by Suburban, then Tahoe and Traverse. Come on, Camaro drivers, get with the times!
"As more people embrace the technology, it brings down the cost of entry for all users," Laura Keck, OnStar's manager of marketing strategy, said in a statement. "With these lower prices, we expect even more customers to use 4G LTE connectivity during this busy summer driving season."
Chevrolet's seen data usage rise every month since it unveiled its 4G LTE in-car connection, and this plan should send those numbers even higher.
