Mercedes-AMG's topless performance continues with C63 Cabriolet
It's everything you (assumingly) love about the C-Class Cabriolet, but with enough power and torque to make unprepared passengers freak the hell out.
When it comes to Mercedes-AMG performance vehicles, the -43 series is pretty well equipped. But it will never hold a candle to the -63s, which promise oodles of power and kit with little sacrifice. That tradition continues on at the New York International Auto Show with the debut of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet.
The car is, more or less, a C-Class Coupe with the roof chopped off. But don't worry, they've replaced it with a power-folding soft top. But that's not the most important part. The most important part is its beating heart -- a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8, available in one of two variants. The only available transmission is a seven-speed automatic.
You see, Mercedes is now splitting some of its -63 AMGs into the "standard" -63, and a hopped-up -63 S. That's happening with the C-Class Cabrio, and there's a fair amount of difference between the two. Whereas the C63 makes do with 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, the C63 S ramps that up to 503 horsepower and 516 torques. That's enough to slice 0.1 seconds off the 0-60 time. Top speed is also higher, 174 mph versus the C63's 155.
There are other differences, too. The C63 S features larger wheels, an electronic limited-slip differential (the C63 has a mechanical one), carbon-ceramic front brakes and a standard AMG Performance steering wheel. Thankfully, both cars are rear-wheel-drive only.
While there's no word yet on pricing, Mercedes did say that the entire AMG Cabrio lineup -- C43, C63 and C63 S -- will hit dealerships by fall.
