Lego's new Porsche 911 GT3 RS kit is just the best
If you can stomach the $300 price tag, that is.
On the heels of some very popular kits, including an early Mini Cooper and a 24-hour endurance racecar, Lego just unveiled its latest creation -- a 1:8-scale recreation of the current-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS. If you can get past the fact that it costs $300, then you're in for one hell of a Lego set.
Clocking in a 2,704 pieces, this isn't going to be a short build. Based on my experience putting together automotive Lego kits, it should take somewhere between 14 and 20 hours to assemble. Whereas most kits rely on your standard, snap-'em-together blocks, this one is part of the Technic group, so it uses a different family of pieces.
Once it's assembled, the GT3 RS will pack functional doors, suspension, frunk and engine compartments. There's a flat-six engine with moving pistons out back and a suitcase tucked under the bonnet. The interior features a dashboard with gauges, a working gearbox, racing seats and a glove compartment that hides a unique serial number.

If that's not enough, your purchase also includes a collector's book that looks at the history of both Lego's Technic, as well as Porsche's GT cars. This isn't some unsanctioned kit, mind you -- this has Porsche's blessing, so you know it's going to be good.
The kit goes on sale in limited markets in June, with a wider rollout taking place in August. No matter when it goes on sale, I'll be buying it and live streaming the build, in case you want to live vicariously.
