Capaciousness on the cheap: Chevrolet prices 2017 Cruze Hatchback at $22,190
For not that much more than the sedan, you get a fair bit more space with which to play around.
Automakers aren't placing too much faith in hatches and wagons, and for good reason. Crossovers, which are basically hatchbacks but taller, have taken the market by storm. But a good number of automakers haven't entirely ditched the concept of a car with extra space -- like Chevrolet, which unveiled the Cruze Hatchback earlier this year. Now, we know how much it will cost.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback will have a starting price of $22,190 when it goes on sale this fall. It uses a 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Active and passive safety systems, along with GM's ubiquitous 4G LTE modem and Wi-Fi hotspot are optional.
You may cringe at that price when you realize the Chevrolet Cruze sedan is some $5,000 cheaper, coming in at $17,495. But that's the stripper L trim, which the hatchback doesn't offer. The hatch starts out at the LT trim, so there's only about $1,500 separating the LT sedan and the LT hatch. That's a little fairer.
If you'd rather err on the fancy side, you can have your hatch done up in Premier trim, which adds things like a power driver's seat, bigger wheels, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start and several other upgrades. That will set you back just $24,820, or less than $1,000 more than the Premier sedan. Both trims can include the RS package, as well, which gives the car a sportier appearance.
