Machismo, maximized: The 2017 Ram Power Wagon

There are trucks, and then there are trucks -- massive, hulking land-leviathans that don't cross terrain so much as scare the terrain right out of its path. The 2017 Ram Power Wagon definitely falls into that latter category, and that's on looks alone.

Borrowing its look from the also-very-macho Ram 1500 Rebel, the Power Wagon rests atop Ram's lineup as one of its largest and most capable pickups. The Power Wagon is based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab, but it packs several unique upgrades specifically for off-roading, like a suspension with a 2-inch lift and a 12,000-pound winch.

Instead of using a diesel engine, the Power Wagon is strapped with Fiat Chrysler's 6.4-liter Hemi eight-cylinder, packing 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. It'll tow a hair over 10,000 pounds, it'll haul 1,510 pounds, and its transfer case relies not on switches, but an honest-to-goodness manual shift lever. Heavy-duty rear axles, locking differentials, and upgraded suspension components are all standard on this beast.

The Power Wagon also features Ram's trick Articulink system, which, despite the name, is not a Pokemon. Joints installed between the control arm and the axle give the truck additional articulation when the going gets rocky. Disconnecting sway bars will up the versatility a few more notches by giving the front axle even more articulation than normal.

As you might expect in a top-tier truck, the Power Wagon has an attractive interior -- and several Power Wagon badges, natch. Fabric is standard, but buyers can opt for leather seating.

Tech-wise, the Power Wagon offers up an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch screen in the center cluster, dual alternators and a trick battery system that shuts off certain parts of the electrical system to keep the battery's load from becoming too much.
