Is Firefox Out of favor with geeks?

Back when Firefox 1, and 1.5 came out, i remember podcasts everywhere being excited, the new version of firefox was a BIG deal, it was about "Fighting the man by using firefox", the "man" being IE, at the time, it was about using the coolest browser ever, for the users, by the users. Completely customizable, themes, add-ons, plug-ins, entire swathes of the web switched development techniques to become non-IE dependent, to become platform agnostic. Market share was growing, IE was no longer the leviathan it once was, but then.....
Firefox 2.0 happened, since 2.0 i've heard more complaints about firefox than anything before. The infamous "memory leak" still hasn't been fixed, and yes, i know there are ways to get rid of it, but it should be dealt with BY default. The firefox for-profit corp had then been formed, the part that makes money, the part that gets a little kick-back from google, or another search engine, every time you use that little search-box in the top right hand corner, so there were stories that firefox was bad because they "were making money".
Am i the only one who see's this, or has Firefox, at least partially, lost some of its geek audience.
