For wireless security, the TL-WR741ND supports all existing popular methods of encryption: WEP, WPA, and WPA2. It also offers MAC address filtering.
We tested the TL-WR741ND against other 802.11n routers; while this is an unfair comparison (the TL-WR741ND is the only single-stream wireless router we've tested), surprisingly, it performed well.
In the throughput test, where we tested the router in its most throughput-speed-favored settings, the TL-WR741ND scored 31.8Mbps, just a little bit slower than the 33.2Mbps of the D-Link DIR-615 or the 32.2Mbps of the super expensive Apple Time Capsule; both are dual-stream routers. At this speed, the TL-WR741ND can finish transmitting a 500MB of data in about 126 seconds.
In our range test, where the router was put 100 feet away from the client, the TL-WR741ND registered 21.7Mbps, which is also comparable to that of some high-end dual-stream 802.11n routers.
Finally, in the mixed-mode test, where the router was set up to work with clients of multiple wireless standards including 802.11n and 802.11g, the TL-WR741ND scored 24.7Mbps, another good number for this type of router.
Overall we were happy with the TL-WR741ND's scores, though they were, as expected, lower than those of most dual-stream routers.

The TL-WR741ND also offered very good range in our tests, being able to hold steady connections from up to 270 feet away. At this range, however, we noticed significant drop in throughput speed, which is now only suitable for light Web surfing. If you plan to do heavy networking, we recommend setting up the clients no farther than 60 feet from the router.
The TL-WR741ND also passed our 24-hour stress test, where it was set to constantly transfer heavy amounts of data between clients. During this time, it didn't disconnect once.
