ThinkPad X41 series

The twin of the ultraportable ThinkPad X41, the ThinkPad X41 tablet features a 12.1-inch XGA screen that swivels and folds flat over the keyboard to let users input handwritten text and diagrams with a stylus. Aside from its tablet functionality, the ThinkPad X41 tablet is built like an ultraportable: buyers can choose between a low-voltage 1.5GHz or an ultra-low-voltage 1.2GHz Pentium M processor with 512MB of RAM (expandable up to 1.5GB). Hard drives come in 20GB to 60GB capacities, though all are lowly 4,200rpm models. The $1,899 (as of July 2005) configuration we tested included a 1.5GHz processor and a 40GB hard drive. Every X41 tablet features two USB 2.0, VGA, modem, and Ethernet ports; headphone and microphone jacks; and a Type II PC Card and Secure Digital slots. The machine comes standard with an Intel 2200 802.11b/g radio, and an Intel 2915 802.11a/b/g radio is available as an option. The X41 tablet also emphasizes security, with a standard fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module. All this adds up to make the ThinkPad X41 tablet one of the best convertible tablets we've seen.
