If you're familiar with the Sky Viper range then you might know the pint-sized Nano or the Mini HD: Skyrocket Toys has mostly made toy drones, as the company name might suggest. I ran into its latest effort here in Las Vegas at.
The Sky Viper Pro is the next step, a bigger drone with a suite of new features that you wouldn't expect to see in a bird that's under $200. Well, technically under $200: the price tag is $199.99, which is around AU$280 and £135.
Arriving in the "fall of 2016", which is basically the end of the year for anyone in the Southern Hemisphere. The Pro can both record video in 1080p and stream in 720p. It'll live stream to your phone, but Skyrocket is still working on what the range will be.
In terms of "big ticket" features, the Pro has geofencing features to keep you in a certain zone, auto-return and even a way-point GPS "click and fly" for points of interest you want to photograph. The battery life is around 10 minutes. The controller is similar to the other Sky Viper range and looks more like a videogame pad than a standard drone controller.
Best of all, the Sky Viper Pro has been designed to come in at just under 250 grams (0.55 pounds) meaning you don't need to get the FAA registration.
Skyrocket Toys didn't have the drone in the air, so I can't comment on how it handles or how noisy it is.
