LAS VEGAS -- Now here's a good idea: a phone and tablet case that looks good, won't drain your wallet, and kills germs.

This sums up the NueVue case for iPhone (4 through 5S) and iPad (Mini, too.) An antimicrobial-coated microfiber liner delivers the two-in-one pow that simultaneously wipes gunk off your phone screen and kills bacteria over time.

You push out the device through a cut-out on the bottom of the case, which presses the phone or tablet in a microfiber sandwich. An antimicrobial, sourced from third-party maker Biocoat, contains elements of silver that are used in the wound care industry, and in Corning's Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass.

It takes 15 minutes to kill about 80 percent of the creepy crawlies, according to NueVue, but two hours to kill most of the buggers completely. You don't need to worry about this happening all at once; the cumulative effects are just as good. The case's effectiveness will probably wear out in a year or year and a half.

You'll be able to buy NueVue in a variety of colors and materials -- cotton twill, canvas, and leather -- for $45, a reasonable price when you look at how much less useful and poorer-crafted cases cost.
