The Good Tons of keys and tons of customization options; backlit keys for typing in the dark; USB ports on back; toggle lets you disable the Windows key.

The Bad USB ports are not USB 2.0; big; pricey for nongamers.

The Bottom Line Logitech's G11 Gaming Keyboard has neither the high-tech flash nor the built-in LCD screen of Logitech's G15 model, but otherwise the two keyboards are exactly the same. Nongamers might not be too interested, but thanks a vast array of customizable keys and sharp blue LED backlighting, we imagine all kinds of PC gamers could benefit from it.

The Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard is a pared-down version of the higher-end G15 model. The only differences are the lack of a built-in LCD screen and, accordingly, the price. The G11 goes for $70, while the G15 is $100, at least according to Logitech's official pricing. Real-world numbers skew lower. We don't recommend this keyboard for nongamers, but we do recommend it for its level of customization and its backlighting. If only it were a little smaller.

With this keyboard, Logitech effectively gives you 54 keys to make your own. We say "effectively" because in addition to the standard 104 keys, Logitech gives you 18 extra G keys, along with three profile-switcher buttons that you toggle between three different custom G-key layouts. Those extra keys come at a price, though. The G11 measures 21.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep. By way of comparison, Dell's current default keyboard measures 17.5 inches wide by 6.25 inches deep.

The G11 has a few features that have more universal, nongamer appeal. Two old-school USB 1.1 ports on the back let you add peripherals that don't require the extra juice or bandwidth of USB 2.0. We also like the slider that lets you disable the Switch to Windows button common to most modern PC keyboards. It's designed to prevent you from accidentally porting yourself out of a game, but it could also come in handy during day-to-day use. Finally, a set of media control buttons at the top of the G11 work with most common media applications--Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp, and others. The blue backlighting also looks cool and will benefit those who like to play in the dark.
