Asus Taichi shows off both of its faces

LAS VEGAS--Spotted at CES 2013 was one of our most-anticipated laptops, the Asus Taichi. First announced as Windows 8 launch system several months ago, this unique dual-screen laptop is not yet widely available, and its appearance here at CES marks the first time many have been able to see it in person.

Available in both 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch ultrabook-branded models, both versions of the Taichi share one notable feature: a double-sided LED-backlit IPS display. That means there is a standard clamshell laptop screen, and then a second screen pointing out from where the back of the lid would normally be.

The outer screen is a multitouch screen, and while you can choose to use one or the other, you can use both in tandem as well, with the outer screen acting as a second display, able to either duplicate or extend the interior display. That could be useful for sharing a presentation, for example.
