Asus Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid Collection review: Asus Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid Collection

Battery life is usually Asus' strong suit in Netbooks, and the $299 Eee PC 1001P we recently reviewed ran for more than 5 hours on our battery drain test. The 1008P, however, was less impressive, running only 3 hours and 17 minutes on the same test. The slim design requires a smaller battery than we've seen on other current Eee PCs, so that seems to be the culprit. For any other laptop 3 hours and 17 minutes would still be a good score, but the current generation of Intel Atom N450 Netbooks easily run for 5 or 6 hours without blinking.

Asus covers its laptops with a standard, one-year, parts-and-labor warranty, and it offers online Web-based help and a toll-free phone number. The company's main support page is a bit confusing, offering separate tabs for "support, "service," and "repair." The toll-free number is also well-hidden; we did manage to finally dig it up, at 1-888-678-3688.
