YouTube comes back to the iPad (screenshots)
Google updates its iOS YouTube app to work with the iPhone 5 as well as the iPad. It's the first big update since September.
YouTube's home screen on iPad
A new software update this afternoon brings Google's Youtube to the iPad, as well as a full-screen experience on the iPhone 5.
Click through to see how Google's set up its popular video service to work on the iPad, where it once came out of the box.
Search
Search looks just like it did on the app before. If you're on the third- or fourth-generation iPad, you can use dictation.
Search results
Here's what you get with a search.
Channel page
Channel pages like this one for CNET TV appear with an array of rectangular previews.
Video playback
Of course the big attraction is watching videos. You get all the usual stuff here from comments and metadata to suggested videos. As part of the update, you can also now click URLs within video descriptions, as well as have them open up in Google Chrome for iOS if it's installed.
Voice search
If you're on an older iOS device without dictation, Google's built its own voice transcription technology right into the experience.
Settings menu
The same settings menu from the iPhone and iPod Touch is present on the iPad, complete with the option to open up links in Chrome for iOS, as well as a Safe Search toggle to change your filtering level.
