Yahoo entertains, unveils news products from CES stage (pictures)

During her star-studded CES keynote Tuesday, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announces news initiatives like digital magazines and a twice-daily new digest. But she also throws in some live SNL schticks and a smooth Beatles rendition by John Legend.

LAS VEGAS -- Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer on Tuesday took the CES stage, where she announced several new news products, including a twice-daily summary of trending headlines called Yahoo News Digets, and digital magazines, starting with Yahoo Tech and Yahoo Food.

Yahoo News Digest announced - quick news summaries

Nick D'Aloisio announced the launch of News Digests, an app that delivers twice-daily summaries of the day's top news. Yahoo bought D'Aloisio's news app Summly in 2013.

Yahoo's new digital magazines

Mayer announced the company's new digital magazines, specially designed websites that deliver original content and news. The first two magazines are Yahoo Food and Yahoo Tech, the latter is led by former New York Times columnist David Pogue, who joined Yahoo in 2013.

Mayer expands on how digital magazines work. "We're doing it with bite size content, photos, and video, led by an all-star editorial team," she says.

Yahoo Smart TV

Yahoo's Adam Cahan, SVP of mobile and emerging products, took the stage to talk about Yahoo's video efforts. The company has a connected TV service, called Smart TV, which is available on select internet-enabled TVs. There's also a Smart TV app for the iPad.

Yahoo announced a new partnership with Viacom to bring episodes of "The Daily Show with John Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" to Smart TV.

Yahoo's Smart TV app lets you watch clips and video. Lately, the company has been running television ads playing up the fact that you can watch "Saturday Night Live" clips in the app. As a tie-in to those ads, two cast members from SNL came on stage to entertain the crowd.
