Worst smartphones of 2010

We've seen some great smartphones in 2010, but they can't all be winners. As promised, we now present to you the year's worst smartphones. These handsets failed to make the grade for a number of reasons, including shoddy design, poor performance, and a lackluster feature set.

The good news is that there are far fewer bad ones than good ones. That said, here are our picks for worst smartphones of 2010.

Dell Aero (AT&T)

Rating: OK (5.0 or 2.5 stars)

The bottom line: Unintuitive, slow, and limited in functionality, the Dell Aero is a huge disappointment and simply can't compete with the competition.

Kin One and Two (Verizon Wireless)

Kin One

Rating: Good (6.3 or 3 stars)

The bottom line:  The Kin One offers young people a different and fun social networking experience, but its lack of certain basic features and required monthly data plan will limit its appeal.

Kin Two

Rating: Good (6.7 or 3 stars)

The bottom line: The Kin Two offers some upgraded features over the Kin One, but you can get more for less with a number of Verizon's other smartphones.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz (AT&T)

Rating: Good (6.3 or 3 stars)

The bottom line: The Sony Ericsson Vivaz offers value for its price, but we'd suggest paying extra for a more powerful smartphone.

Motorola Flipout (AT&T)

Rating: Good (6.7 or 3 stars)

The bottom line: The Motorola Flipout exceeds on some levels, but its unique design doesn't do it any favors as a touch-screen smartphone.
