Simple graphics, difficult dungeons (pictures)
The graphical style for Rocketcat Games titles has always had that cute, cartoonish quality, but don't let it fool you -- Wayward Souls is tough.
Great atmosphere
With randomized dungeons, you never know what you'll get, but with the help of eerie background music, this game is all about atmosphere.
Check the map
It's easy to get lost as you run down seemingly endless corridors. Fortunately, you can touch a button in the upper right, then open the map to see where you've been and where you need to go.
Varied worlds
While most of my runs through the first five levels had a similar dungeon theme (it's called the Mines), I also came across strange dark worlds (with unique monsters) that added variation to the gameplay.
Forging new items
In your travels, you'll come across the Forge, where you get a choice of two possible upgrade paths for one of your items.
Yes, there are hats
Just like old classic Rocketcat Games such as Super Quickhook and Hook Worlds, you can collect and equip hats for any of the classes.
Get used to this screen
When you die, you're given a rundown of how far you got, how many monsters you killed, and how much money you looted. I tried to beat the first dungeon several times so I got used to this particular rundown.
Defeating level 5
When you finally kill the boss in level five of the Mines, you'll move on to The Tower, where more adventures await.
